OU Harp Studio

Welcome to our OU Harp studio website! I’m proud to say that I’ve been teaching harp & Understanding Music at the University of Oklahoma since 1998. After moving here from Dallas to play principal harp with the OKC Philharmonic, the department was dormant with an old harp in storage and the other one stolen and later recovered at a local pawn shop. Since then, we’ve added 3 new Lyon & Healy harps (style 85, 30, and 23) to our studio, scholarships, harp ensemble, harp orchestra literature and harp pedagogy.

Technique is very important to me and I teach the Salzedo method having studied with teachers Ellen Ritscher, Susan Pejovich, Lucile Lawrence and 5 summers in Maine with Alice Chalifoux. Performance is also important and our studio has TWO concerts every semester: Harp studio and Harp ensemble. Students have several performance opportunities with orchestra, symphony band, concert band, wind ensemble, choir, opera, musicals and new music ensemble. There are also gigs on campus and in the metroplex available to students.

The University of Oklahoma offers a Masters in Music, 4 different undergraduate major degrees (including traditional performance degrees, music education degrees, and 2 degrees with areas of emphasis inside or outside of music), and a music minor degree. For more information, see the Degrees tab above.

Graduate Assistantship for harp is offered with tuition waiver, monthly stipend and health insurance. Duties include grading two classes of Understanding Music, and harp responsibilities. Graduate students are often asked to play 2nd harp with me in the OKC Philharmonic.
